Creswell, J. W. (2009). Research design: Qualitative, quantitative, and mixed methods approaches (Chapter 9 on Qualitative Methods pp. 173-201). Thousand Oaks, CA: Sage Publications. |
In class we will:
- Discuss the results of the assignment that is due: your 4 mini-proposals (2 questions, each approached 2 ways)
- Discuss the readings
Deadlines to keep in mind
- DUE 09.29.08 – Develop 2 of the 5 questions further. For *each* question, develop a short (2-page) proposal with the following sections. (1) An introduction to the problem and why it is important (super-mini lit review). (2) Method OPTION A - Propose one way to address your question. Include who the sample would be, what measures you might have, etc. (3) Method OPTION B - Propose an alternative way to address your research question (different design). Include who the sample would be, what measures you might have, etc. (4) A Discussion/Conclusion - What would your study contribute to the body of knowledge? What are its proposed strengths and limitations?
Thus, you have 4- pages total. Two questions, each question written as a two-page proposal (with option A and B).
This will be graded on a 0 (incomplete), 1 (needs improvement), and 2 (complete) point scale for each question (4-points total).
- DUE 10.08.08 - Research Design Summary #1, 1-page review, 7-pages, consult the syllabus for details.
- Wiki Editing - By now, you should be adding, deleting, modifying, and re-organizing the wiki to reflect a growing understand of research design.
